SUMMARY:Nahr El Jawz Hike With Vamos Todos
DESCRIPTION:Nahr El Jawz, also known as the Walnut River, flows from the mountains above Tannourine to the Mediterranean Sea between Batroun and Hamat. Surrounded by walnut trees and lush spring landscapes, the valley is one of North Lebanon’s most scenic natural sites. Historically, it served as the main passage to Batroun, which led to the construction of the Msaylha Fortress for protection. In 1998, the valley was officially listed as a National and Historic Heritage Site.\nThis hiking day offers two levels:\nLevel 5:\nStarting from Ibrin, the trail passes through pine forests before descending to the riverbanks. The route includes adventurous sections near the water canal and continues to Kaftoun, followed by a transfer to Kfarhay.\nLevel 3:\nAn easier and mostly flat trail beginning in Beksmaya, following the riverbank through scenic landscapes and narrow passages. After the hike, participants will head to Kaftoun and then Kfarhay.\nThe visit also includes the Monastery of Our Lady of Kaftoun, carved into a red limestone cliff and home to a rare 11th-century Byzantine icon, as well as Deir Mar Youhanna Maroun in Kfarhay, a 7th-century monastery known for its religious heritage and historical artifacts.\nThe day ends with a homemade lunch at Jdabra Campsite before returning to Beirut.\nLocation: Kaftoun – Beksmaya – Kfarhay, Batroun District\nDate: Sunday, May 17\nMeeting Time: 8:00 AM – Departure at 8:15 AM\nPrice: $65 including transportation, guides, insurance, and lunch / $35 without lunch\n
