SUMMARY:Stop Making Sense, Mohammad El Rawas
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMohammad El Rawas’ upcoming exhibition, Stop Making Sense, explores the relationship between the personal and the global through a dialogue with time. Through assemblages combining paintings, photographs, objects, and references, El Rawas revisits the past while imagining the future, creating works that challenge conventional ways of seeing. His practice reflects a continuous movement between memory, history, and contemporary expression, driven by a desire to create something distinct and thought-provoking.\nBorn in Beirut in 1951, El Rawas graduated with honors from the Institute of Fine Arts at the Lebanese University in 1975. Following the outbreak of the Lebanese Civil War, he moved to Morocco, where he taught art and resumed painting before returning to Beirut in 1979 for his first solo exhibition. That same year, he joined the Slade School of Fine Art in London, later returning to Beirut in 1981 with a Master’s degree in printmaking. He went on to teach at both the Lebanese University and the American University of Beirut for 27 years.\nSince 1979, El Rawas has held numerous solo exhibitions in Beirut, London, and Dubai, and participated in more than 40 international biennials and exhibitions across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas. His work has received several awards, including the Alexandria Biennale Award for Mediterranean Countries in 2007 for his first installation and video art piece. His artworks are part of museum and public collections in Lebanon, Tunisia, Iraq, Jordan, the UAE, Norway, and the UK.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
