Overview
Organized by Vamos Todos in partnership with the Municipality of Khenchara Al-Jwar, this event blends hiking, eco-tourism, culture, and wine tasting. Khenchara is famous for its springs, small museums, wineries, and historic churches.
Hike & Cultural Highlights
Start at the historic Moukarzel Hotel, overlooking Mount Sannine, Jabal el Kneise, and Beirut. Then, follow pine trails to Ain el Smaydiyye, the main spring beside the village’s first winery. Next, visit Beit Ayal spring, a grape molasses press, and an ancient tomb. Continue to Sheer el Habes (“Prison Cliff”), once used by the Ottomans to hold hostages. Finally, reach St. Jean Monastery to explore underground churches and taste Couvent St. Jean wines.
Optional Extension
You may add a 2.5 km route to see a centuries-old water mill.
Closing & Local Delicacies
End the day in the village square, where you can enjoy and buy Qurban, a traditional sweet bread.
