EL DIMANE HIKE – A Journey Through the Sacred Qadisha Valley

Located between the Bcharre and Zgharta districts in North Lebanon, the Qadisha Valley is one of the country’s most revered and historically rich landscapes. Carved by the Qadisha River—also known as Nahr Abu Ali as it nears Tripoli—this valley has long served as a spiritual refuge. Its name, meaning “Holy” in Aramaic, reflects its centuries-old role as a sanctuary for Christian monastic life.

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the valley is filled with cave churches, ancient hermitages, and monasteries hewn into cliff sides—offering a profound blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. With approximately 13 hiking trails weaving through its depths, each visit offers a unique and moving experience.

Hike Overview

The day includes visits to Deir Saidet Annoubine, St. Marina, and Deir Mar Licha. Depending on the selected route, hikers will also pass through Dimane, the summer seat of the Maronite Patriarch.

Hiking Levels:

• Levels 2 & 4
Begin at the Mar Lichaa entrance and follow a 3-kilometer trail leading to the Lady of Annoubine Monastery. After a rest stop, participants can return either by foot or via shuttle within the valley.

• Level 6
Start from Dimane and descend toward Annoubine village. This route includes stops at Deir Saidet Annoubine and St. Marina, and concludes with a traditional Lebanese lunch at a local restaurant in the Holy Valley. After lunch, the group continues on to explore Mar Licha.
