Hiking in Qadisha Valley – Dimane to Annoubine

Located between the districts of Bcharre and Zgharta in North Lebanon, Qadisha Valley is one of the country’s most sacred and historic landscapes. Carved by the Qadisha River, the valley has long served as a spiritual refuge for Christian monastic communities. Its name, meaning “Holy” in Aramaic, reflects its religious and cultural significance.

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the valley is renowned for its cliff-carved monasteries, chapels, hermitages, and ancient caves, set within a dramatic natural setting.

Hike Overview

This guided hike explores some of the valley’s most important landmarks, including:

• Deir Saidet Annoubine

• St. Marina

• Deir Mar Licha

Depending on the selected level, the route may also pass through Dimane.

Levels 2 & 4
The hike begins at the Mar Licha entrance and follows a 3 km trail to the Lady of Annoubine Monastery. After a short break, participants may return on foot or by shuttle within the valley.

Level 6
Starting from Dimane, the summer residence of the Maronite Patriarch, the trail leads to Annoubine village. The route includes visits to Deir Saidet Annoubine and St. Marina, followed by a traditional Lebanese lunch at a local restaurant in the Holy Valley. After lunch, the group continues towards Mar Licha.
