Pets bring us so much joy, and there’s nothing better than sharing the outdoors with them. In Lebanon, a growing number of trails are becoming accessible to pet owners. Here’s a small selection of hiking routes that can be enjoyed with your special companion.

Kfour
The Sentier des Sources hiking trail unfolds across two distinct loops, each offering a window into Lebanon’s rich natural landscapes and storied past. Beginning at Ain Breich, the Southern Loop spans 4.8 km at a moderate pace, guiding hikers along ancient Roman stairs, a verdant stream, the storied ruins of a silk factory and into the welcoming village of Kfour. To the north, the gentler Northern Loop sets off from the Yatoun entrance, meandering through charming villages and past landmarks such as the Saint Charbel and Sister Barabia old Church — a perfect outing for families. Rounding out the experience, the Moon’s Trail stretches 4.7 km, inviting adventurers to uncover even more of Kfour’s hidden treasures. It is important to note that there is a small section guarded by dogs, so keep your dog close and on a leash.
Sannine–Qornayel
A natural wonderland, this trail is known for its scenic landscapes and the many natural springs scattered along the route. It’s an ideal choice for hikers looking for a refreshing outdoor experience with their pets. However, it’s best to avoid this area during hunting season, as the sound of gunfire can be distressing for dogs.
Niha to Jezzine
Among Lebanon’s most rewarding hikes, this trail stretches from Nabi Ayoub to the Niha Fortress before continuing toward Jezzine. The route offers sweeping views and varied landscapes, making it a memorable experience for both hikers and their dogs. One section requires passing through farmland populated with sheep and guarded by shepherd dogs. During this stretch, it’s important to keep your dog close and on a leash to avoid unwanted encounters.
Brummana
For those looking for a shorter, more manageable outing, Brummana offers a convenient loop trail. Its relatively short distance makes it suitable for dogs of all energy levels, while the loop format simplifies logistics for hikers.

Ammiq Wetlands
Located in West Bekaa, Ammiq Wetlands is a haven for biodiversity and a unique destination for nature lovers. The terrain is mostly flat, with wetlands supporting a rich variety of plant and tree species. That said, not all areas are open to dogs. Certain sections are restricted due to the presence of wildlife and endangered plant species. Where permitted, dogs must remain on a leash at all times, and hikers are expected to stick strictly to marked trails.
Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve
Recognized by UNESCO, the Jabal Moussa Biosphere Reserve spans over 6,500 hectares and features a network of scenic trails. With its diverse flora and peaceful surroundings, it’s one of the country’s most treasured natural sites. Before visiting, it’s advisable to check current regulations regarding pets, as access may vary depending on conservation efforts.

Chnaniir Nature Reserve
Perched above the bay of Jounieh, the Chnaniir Nature Reserve is known for its dense greenery, including wild pines and oaks. Its elevated views and tranquil setting make it a rewarding destination for a day hike.
Tips for Hiking with Your Dog
Keep your Dog on a Leash
With hiking becoming increasingly popular in Lebanon, encounters with other hikers, animals and livestock are more common. Keeping your dog on a leash ensures a safer and more controlled experience for everyone.
Make sure your Dog is Social
Many trails pass through areas with shepherds and their animals. A sociable dog is less likely to react negatively, helping you avoid stressful or potentially risky situations.
