Team Golden feet has the honor to invite you to participate in exploring and walking in the historical city of Baalbeck( city of the sun).
Baalbeck castle is Lebanon's greatest Roman treasure counted amongst the wonders of the ancient world, the largest and most elaborate Roman temples ever built, and wonderfully preserved. Towering high above the Beqaa plain, their monumental proportions proclaimed the power and wealth of Imperial Rome. The Greeks identified the god of Baalbeck with the sun god and the city was called Heliopolis or City of the Sun. The religious complex of Baalbeck is made up of the Jupiter temple and the Bacchus temple adjacent to it. A short distance away is the circular structure known as the temple of Venus. 86km away from Beirut, Baalbeck is one of Lebanon’s oldest cities and one of the most important sites in the Roman world. Considered to be Lebanon’s greatest archeological treasure, the city was originally named after Baal, the Phoenician God of rain and thunder. For centuries, the temples of Baalbeck lay under meters of rubble, obscured by mediaeval fortifications. The monuments have also suffered from war, theft and earthquakes over the years. Restoration work began in 1898, and visitors today can see the remnants of the great temple of Jupiter, a marvel by itself, leaving visitors to wonder at the immensity of the roman project and the great workmanship that went into it.
The Baalbek Barn is one of the wonderful areas that includes a press and some caves dating back to an ancient era, in addition to the ruins of houses and residential complexes that indicated that these barren areas were inhabited and their inhabitants practiced agriculture. This beautiful geographical spot is devoid of all wild trees, in contrast to the presence of some very small fields that include various fruit trees.
First,we will visit the ancient Baalbeck Castle.
After that,we will start our new hike named"Jurd Baalbeck trail".
The departure starts from a height of 1260 meters until the first station, which is the "press" at a height of 1535 meters. Participants will be introduced to its history and why it was dug into the rock.
After "Al-Masara", we continue our journey upwards until we reach a height of 1685 meters at "Shir and Hakab Uzi raid", which is the second station.
Then we head towards the "Al-Fawaqani Ring", which is two high rocks and two caves overlooking the valley opposite them, and then head towards the end point.
