Explore the scenic village of Akkar al Atiqa, winner of Lebanon’s “Favorite Village” competition in 2016. The hike highlights the historic Hosn Akkar citadel, perched on a rocky mountain between two valleys. According to legend, it was built by Mohrez Bin Akkar, who died in 864 AD, and was later occupied by the Seljuks, Crusaders, and Mamluks.
The hike is available in two levels. Levels 3 and 5 start within the village and head toward the citadel area, known for its rugged terrain, before continuing to the first water mill. Level 5 extends an additional 4 km to reach the village square.
Participants will gather at the village’s local association to enjoy traditional homemade food prepared by the community, with the option to purchase local artisanal products.
