Azour – Machmouche Overnight Escape With Vamos Todos
We’re heading south to Jezzine, one of Lebanon’s top summer destinations. At 950m altitude, its villages are surrounded by pine forests and orchards—perfect for a cool, scenic getaway.
In Machmouche, once home to the Maronite bishopric, we’ll explore an 18th-century monastery and visit the remains of a Byzantine settlement, including a man-made lake fed by the Litani River through a 16 km tunnel.
The retreat is at Blue Jay Valley, an eco-lodge nestled in nature, offering cozy tents and bungalows, panoramic dining, and locally made products. Evenings feature traditional meals and bonfire gatherings under the stars.
Saturday Hikes:
-
Level 6 (14 km): Deir Machmouche to Qattine via Bteddine, Azour, and Aytoule. Scenic forests, waterways, and Ain el Zarka pond along the way.
-
Level 3 (7 km): A lighter route starting from Azour and joining the group in Qattine.
On the way back, we’ll stop at B. Balady, a remarkable initiative led by landmine survivors working in poultry, beekeeping, and herb farming.
A weekend of nature, heritage, and meaningful encounters.
