Hiking and Cultural Discovery in Deir el Qamar

Spend a day exploring the historic village of Deir el Qamar in the Shouf district of Mount Lebanon. Once the capital of Mount Lebanon between the 16th and 18th centuries and home to the country’s first municipality established in 1864, the village has preserved its heritage with stone houses, cobbled streets and a central square where a synagogue, church and mosque stand side by side.

The day begins with a transfer to Tallet el Salib (Hill of the Cross) and the chapel of Father Yaacoub, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.

Hiking details (Level 5 – Moderate):

  • Starting point: Tallet el Salib

  • Gentle ascent toward Kfarkatra (1,000 m)

  • Passing natural springs and old hamlets

  • Descent to Maaser Beit El-Dine and its valley

  • Finish at the main square of Deir el Qamar

  • Distance: 8 km

After the hike, participants will enjoy a homemade lunch followed by a guided cultural visit of Deir el Qamar’s main landmarks, including the synagogue, Saydet el-Talleh Church, Fakhreddine Mosque, the Youssef Chehab Serail and the Khan of the Silk.
