Azour – Machmouche Overnight Getaway

Head south to the Jezzine District—one of Lebanon’s top summer escapes. At 950m elevation, this region is surrounded by pine forests and orchards, offering cool mountain air and scenic landscapes.

In Machmouche, once the center of the Maronite bishopric, explore an 18th-century monastery and a Byzantine-era man-made lake, fed by the Litani River via a 16 km tunnel.

The night will be spent at Blue Jay Valley, an eco-lodge tucked in a lush green valley. Enjoy cozy tents and bungalows, panoramic dining, and locally made products. Evenings promise authentic food and a warm bonfire under the stars.

Saturday Hikes:

• Level 6 (14 km): From Deir Machmouche through Bteddine, Azour, Aytoule to Qattine and its historic monastery. The trail winds through forests, streams, and Ain el Zarka pond.

• Level 3 (7 km): A shorter option starting from Azour, meeting the group in Qattine.

On the return, stop at B. Balady, a local project by landmine survivors working in farming and beekeeping—a powerful story of resilience.

This weekend blends history, nature, and sustainable hospitality.
