Lamartine Ras El Metn Hike With Vamos Todos

Inspired by Lamartine
“From this place, God’s gift to perceive His Work can be captured through a glimpse.”
— Alphonse de Lamartine (1790–1869)

The Experience
This hike explores Ras el Metn and Lamartine Valley, landscapes that inspired the French poet during his time in Lebanon. Today, Ras el Metn remains deeply committed to preserving the valley’s natural beauty and promoting eco-tourism and sustainability.

Nature & Heritage
Along the way, discover pine forests, ancient cliff-carved tombs, natural grottos, and the historic spring Nabaa Ain El Marj (1472). The route also includes the abandoned monastery Deir Mar Youhana in Shehlen, offering sweeping views from Bhamdoun to Ktaleh.

Hiking Levels

  • Level 3 (Easy): Mostly flat and downhill (280 m descent), passing old houses, bridges, and Nabeh el Delbi, Beirut’s main water source.

  • Level 5 (Challenging): A steeper uphill trail leading to Deir Mar Youhana, with panoramic views before reconnecting with the group.

Picnic by the River
Both groups meet for a relaxing picnic at Ain Sheikh Hassan Halawi, a natural freshwater source. Please bring your own lunch.

Final Visit
After the hike, the program concludes at the historic Serail of Ras el Metn (1775), built by the Lamaayeen princes, where the courtyard and bell tower still stand as symbols of the village’s heritage.
