In the late Ottoman era, Palestine saw a flourishing art scene shaped by local and international influences. As a major Christian pilgrimage site, the Holy Land attracted Greek and Russian iconographers, whose work, along with that of local artists, helped spread a unique iconographic tradition across the Levant and into Egypt.
On Earth as it is in Heaven showcases large pilgrims’ maps, Melkite and Greek icons, and finely crafted miniature souvenir icons.
