What Remains: Adel Abidin at Galerie Tanit

In a time shaped by violence, displacement, and environmental collapse, the question of what survives disaster has become urgent.

In this new series, Adel Abidin returns to painting to explore how trauma marks landscapes, memories, and shared experience. A recurring element—the horizon—acts as a guide. Sometimes it appears sharp and clear, other times blurred and uncertain. It leads us through different zones of loss and resilience.

The triptych Drift forms the heart of the exhibition. A wrecked ship stretches across three canvases. It begins in the center and extends to the left. The broken vessel becomes a symbol of destruction and what remains. Refugees walk toward the horizon, while scattered wreckage maps a landscape shaped by absence. This visual language sets the tone for the entire show.

In Displaced, two glowing blue forms—like alien engines—descend into a twisted, broken terrain. Below them, figures look up at a tent, now glowing like a cloud. This image hints at both escape and hope, rising above a ruined Earth. Here, exile and transcendence meet.

Metamorphosis explores survival through change. Human and natural shapes merge into fluid forms. The horizon disappears. Fragments and lines move across the canvas, shifting between decay and renewal. This work suggests that even in collapse, something endures.
