At sunset on Thursday 10 and Friday 11 July, the hills of Batroun will echo with music, myth and magic. The vineyards of IXSIR will transform into an open-air amphitheater for a one-of-a-kind orchestral experience inspired by the legendary tales of One Thousand and One Nights.
More than a concert, this immersive performance blends music, literature and atmosphere into a sensory journey. Under the direction of Lebanese-Armenian maestro Harout Fazlian, the evening will feature Rimsky-Korsakov’s Sheherazade, a 19th-century masterpiece reimagined through an East-meets-West lens. For the first time in Lebanon, it will be performed with the accompaniment of oriental instruments, adding new layers of resonance and richness to the iconic score.
Taking the stage is the all-female Firdaus Orchestra, a groundbreaking ensemble created under ExpoCity-Dubai to empower women in music. With 26 musicians, the orchestra will bring emotional nuance and dynamic power to this retelling of Sheherazade’s story in the heart of Lebanon.
Adding another dimension, the performance features a literary narration written by Henri Zoghaib, voiced by Jana Abi Ghosn as Sheherazade and Jalal Chaar as Shahryar. Together, they blend poetry and performance into a unified tale.
The amphitheater, built especially for this event, appears like a flying carpet suspended between the mountains and the sea. Surrounded by vines and set under the stars, it creates a stage where imagination and nature meet.
As Maestro Fazlian puts it, “It’s about more than the music. It’s about awakening all the senses and keeping the wonder alive. I’m confident this will be more than a concert—it will be a magical experience.”
