For half a century, Boubouffe Brasserie has been a cornerstone of Achrafieh’s dining scene, serving generous plates, warm welcomes and memories that span generations. As it marks its 50th anniversary, the beloved brasserie celebrates not only its culinary journey but also its enduring place within Beirut’s social fabric.
Where It All Began
On February 16, 1976, the concept of the Lebanese brasserie was introduced to the heart of Achrafieh. At a time when the neighborhood’s dining options were limited, Boubouffe (+961 1 334 040 / +961 1 200 408) opened its doors as the area’s first establishment of its kind, quickly gaining recognition for its quality produce and fresh local ingredients.
Founded by Michel Aramouni, the brasserie blended Lebanese culinary heritage with subtle international influences. Its name, inspired by the French word bouffe meaning food, reflects Achrafieh’s longstanding cultural ties to France and the European flair that shaped its identity.
A Table for the Community
What began as a modest eatery serving shawarma, manakeesh and French-style steak with hand-cut fries soon evolved into a neighborhood institution. The menu expanded to cover breakfast, lunch and dinner, offering authentic Lebanese classics alongside international favorites. Daily homemade dishes and charcoal-grilled shawarma became signatures that kept guests coming back.
During the Lebanese Civil War, Boubouffe was more than just a restaurant. It became a gathering place, a safe familiar setting where locals, families and even public figures could share a meal and a moment of normalcy. In difficult times, it stood as a symbol of resilience and unity, embodying the spirit of Beirut itself.
Looking Ahead
Fifty years on, Boubouffe Brasserie continues to honor the values it was built on: quality ingredients, generous hospitality and a welcoming atmosphere that feels like home. As it enters its next chapter, the brasserie remains committed to preserving its legacy while creating new memories for generations to come.
Here’s to 50 years of flavor, friendship and tradition and to many more shared tables in Achrafieh!
