FEES                             : 380.000LL or 10 $ per person including transport, materials and guides.

WHAT TO GET                  : Get some light snacks that will boost up your energy such as dried fruits. Pack your backpacks with water, a cap, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes, preferably hiking shoes (A professional brand is recommended). DC members get a 20% discount on sports equipment in Sports 4 Ever branches.

DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT:

Join us this Saturday 22th to experience a new type of ecological activity in one of the most charming places in Batroun district. It’s about olive picking, hiking and olive oil tasting at Chabtine village.

• The hiking trip will include the following:

Intermediate Level; Hiking duration is ~2H

Length ~ 6 km

Variance in altitude ~ 150 m

Altitude above sea level: 450 to 600 m.

The hike will go around the well-preserved and authentic village of Chabtine between the olive trees orchards; we will pass by the historical monastery of ''Mar Sarkis and Bakhos''. The track is not very hard; we will be divided into 2 groups (easy & intermediate level). Will walk through the upper part of Chabtine overlooking the spectacular Mediterranean Sea and surrounding authentic villages of mid-Batroun Caza: Most of the track will be around the village with a short passage across the village.

Toward the end of the trail, we will join Mazak olive orchard for the olive oil tasting experience.

• The olive picking experience will include the following:

We will start by meeting the villagers who will share with us their experience in olive picking and how it could be done, their attachment to the land as well as their traditions and lifestyle. Then we will do a short walk top to the orchard (15 min) and once arriving at the olive picking area we will be divided into small groups and provided materials for work; the procedure of olive picking is easy and kids friendly.

You have the option to do only the olive picking experience if you don’t want to do the hiking trail.

Then, our picnic area will be in Monterosso (Instagram: @Monterosso) where we will have lunch together in a restful place in nature under the local trees of Arbusier.

You can order your sandwiches/meals directly from the nearby Diwan El Hassoun restaurant.

As mention before, we will end our journey by gathering at Maison Mazak Chabtine, will visit it, learn about oil making, organic farming and olive oil tasting. You will have the opportunity as well to get Mazak products at discounted prices.

This event is done in collaboration with “Mazak”. MAZAK is an organic and local brand. Maison Mazak is located in Chabtine-middle Batroun caza. It is a local brand promoting local organic “terroir” products (Olive oil, olives, Saboon Baladi, …) produced by villagers and encouraging as well local farmers to stick to their lands and use only green practices.
