DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT:

=======================

This hike is wonderful. First, we will visit a historical church and the citadel of Smar Jbeil, and then we will hike in Jrabta village, visit LBC’s premises where ‘El Wadi’ was filmed, the Monastery and the Museum of St. Rafqa and the ancient Al Qattine Monastery. The hidden treasures and beauty of Lebanon are yet to be unveiled.

As usual, there will be two levels of difficulty.

HIKING LEVEL. 1 to 3 for easy, 4 to 6 for intermediate, 7 to 9 for strenuous

Level 3: An easy walk, with very light ascents and descents. It is ideal for picture taking. It will be a great trail session and a lovely day with the group.

Level 5: About 10.5 KM (3.5 hours) It is a moderate walk. This level is strictly for advanced walkers; long delay is not an option.
Photos shall be taken on the move or when we stop for a break.

Our journey will start in Smar Jbeil. This name is the derivate of the Phoenician language, which means “the guardian of Jbeil”.

We will see the historical church “Al Sayde” (Ste Mary) built in the 6th Century, and then we will head to the Citadel (Crusader Caste) built in the 12Th century. It has around 367 wells carved into the rocks and deep tunnels connecting the castle to the neighboring valleys. The citadel dates back to the Phoenician era, it was then occupied by the Romans. Also first Patriarch Saint John Maron (685 A.C.) lived in Smar Jbeil castle before moving to Kfarhay. After the Crusades, the village entered under the Mamluks rule in the 13th century, followed by the Ottomans in 1516 AC. The Castle had a main tower showing the entire Mediterranean coast from Jounieh to Tripoli.

After the visit will take the bus to St. Rafqa Monastery, visit the museum.

Now arrived to St Rafqa in Jrabta, everyone will hike in the forest to reach a small church in the middle of the mountain surrounded by trees; we will cross an old spring.

After lunch, will continue walking together in stretch way to Deir el Qattine in Sghar. It is an old and historical Byzantine Church, atop a hill overlooking beautiful views, also known as Saydet el Bzaz, stand inside three caves, with an altar, arcades, arches, and ruins.

“Sghar” means small in Phoenician language. Sghar is home to some Phoenician stone sarcophagi, as well as many historical churches and monasteries.

We promise you very good & joyful hike; don’t hesitate to book yourself for this event. You will fell in love with these sites.

Protect yourself and others around you by knowing the facts and taking appropriate precautions:

Distancing from each other is a must.

Cover your nose and mouth with your face masks. To keep it on, while we are in the bus.
