Tools For After” Exhibition at Sursock Palace

The Italian Cultural Institute (IIC), in collaboration with the Sursock Palace Association and ALBA-Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts, presents the exhibition "Tools For After – Design" (TFA Design), as part of the VIII edition of Italian Design Day (IDD) in the World. This event is held in partnership with the Italian Embassy in Beirut and the Italian Trade Agency.
Venue and duration
The exhibition will take place at Sursock Palace from March 14th to April 7th, offering an immersive exploration of Italian design culture.
Thematic sections
The exhibition is organized into four thematic sections:
- LYFE: Objects with a Soul Reimagining the concept of life in everyday objects, this section draws inspiration from astrobiologists Stuart Barlett and Michael Wong's notion of "lyfe," challenging conventional perceptions of existence.
- PALEO: Echoes of Prehistoric Influence Delving into the enduring impact of prehistoric dynamics on contemporary culture, this section highlights humanity's intrinsic connection to its primal origins.
- TOOLS: Imagining Changes Reality Showcasing the transformative power of imagination through inventions, strategies, and alternative materials, this section drives innovation across various domains.
- MAPS: Navigating Boundaries and Beyond Exploring mapping as a tool for understanding and transcending boundaries, this section shapes perceptions of space, fostering exploration, communication, and cultural exchange.
Featured exhibits
The exhibition features over 44 meticulously curated objects by a new generation of designers, epitomizing Italian innovation and ingenuity. It confronts pressing inquiries posed by the Anthropocene era, challenging mass consumption, programmed obsolescence, and industrialized production.
Beyond products
In addition to showcasing products, the exhibition presents cutting-edge prototypes, projects, scenarios, and proposals tackling sustainability challenges. It also highlights selected projects by students from design and architecture schools.
Enriching dialogue
Distinguished guest speakers, including Francesca Parotti, will enrich the dialogue surrounding sustainable design practices and the future of creativity in the Anthropocene age.
