Explore the Cedars of Jaj and surrounding Hiking Trails

Explore the Jaj Cedars Forest Nature Reserve, one of Lebanon’s oldest, where towering trees, believed to have been used by the Phoenicians for shipbuilding, stand as a testament to the country’s rich history.

The Jaj LMT (Lebanon Mountain Trail) Geotrail takes you through rugged landscapes, offering panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and rock formations. For a more relaxed walk, a beginner-friendly trail leads to the Church of God Temple, nestled among the cedars. Whether hiking or strolling, the Jaj Cedars Forest Nature Reserve offers something for every explorer.

Visit Religious and Historical Landmarks 

Jaj is rich in religious history. Several notable sites are part of the “Discoveries Around Annaya” trail, which showcases Lebanon’s monastic and Christian heritage.

Each landmark features a QR code, providing easy access to more information about its history.  Jaj is one of many villages in the Byblos Kaza on the “Discoveries Around Annaya” trail. The trail also includes sites in Annaya, Qartaba, Mechmech, Aakoura, Lehfed and Tartej. 

Discover the Boutros Farhat Sculpture Museum

A unique cultural experience awaits at the Boutros Farhat Museum (+961 3 254 283). Here, you’ll discover the sculptor’s impressive work in stone, exploring themes of Phoenician history, spirituality and Lebanese identity.

Explore Nearby Villages

Just a five-minute car ride away, Lehfed is the birthplace and home of Brother Estephan Nehme. A museum honoring his life and spiritual journey can be found, offering a glimpse into both his legacy and the region’s history. The village also played a key role in Lebanon’s resistance against Ottoman rule, as the Lehfed Resistance Band led a local revolt. Visitors can explore the historic site where they fought the Ottomans by hiking up the hills and enjoy a panoramic view at the top.

In the neighboring village of Bchaaleh, the legendary Sisters Olive Trees of Noah draw in visitors from afar. At over 6,000 years old, the olive trees are among the oldest in the world.

Further along, you’ll find the picturesque village of Douma. Once the Ottoman Capital of North Lebanon, it is known for its charming souk and beautiful traditional Lebanese architecture.

Getting There

Jaj is located around 60km from Beirut. Take the highway north toward Tripoli, exiting at Amchit. Continue towards Lehfed and follow the directions towards Jaj.
