by LBTAdmin

Spring is finally here, signalling the return of the Lebanese Mountain Trail Association’s (LMTA) Thru-Walk. We discover what’s in store for hikers on the month-long challenge.

The walk takes place under the slogan “Hike It. Protect It.” from 29 March to 28 April 2019, and starts from Andqet (North Lebanon) all the way to Jdeidet Marjayoun (South Lebanon) – or the other way around, depending on your preference.

If you’re looking for some motivation to get outdoors, then here are five good reasons to pack your hiking gear and hit the trail.

Hiking is a great way to break the cycle of daily routine and step into nature. The Thru-Walk also give a you a chance to meet people from Europe, USA, Canada, and Australia – to name just a few places, so you’ll walk away having made countless new friends.

The Lebanon Mountain Trail extends over more than 76 villages and towns across the whole country.  It is filled with archaeological sites, natural reserves, biospheres, valleys, mountains and endless hidden gems just waiting to be discovered and tell their stories. Think of it as a month-long grand tour.

Your taste buds are certainly in for a treat with at least one specialty meal in every village you visit. For instance, you’ll get to taste five different versions of the famous moujadara – and love them all!

Ignite your senses and feel the warm rays of the sun on your skin. During the Thru-Walk, you’ll have time to meditate and reconnect with nature. You will also be able to chat with like-minded hikers and open your mind to an experience like no other.

Hiking can be used as a way to stay physically active; so you can potentially lose weight, reduce heart disease, decrease hypertension, and slow down the aging process. It also offers mental health benefits by reducing stress and anxiety. Fitness can be fun, too!
