Chantal Goya’s Musical Adventures in Lebanon

by LBTAdmin

Ahead of her forthcoming shows at the Casino du Liban on 30 and 31 March and 1 April, French singer and actress Chantal Goya discusses her career, her relationship with Lebanon and her upcoming performances.

What can you tell us about your forthcoming show at the renowned Casino du Liban?

The Casino du Liban show marks an important stop on La Route Enchantée, the show I have been performing for than a year across France. The audience asked me for specific songs for this tour. I will also be one of the only artists to have such beautiful sets, like that of La Forêt de Brocéliande, which is a new song, as well as the whole Château du Chat Botté, with beautiful songs by Jean-Jacques Debout.

You have been performing in Lebanon for more than 30 years. What have been the most memorable moments?

In 1991, the year after the war ended, more than 100,000 people turned up to 10 shows. I was wondering how this was possible, especially after such a long and devastating war, and was amazed that my songs were known everywhere. I had never seen that in my life.

What do you enjoy most about your trips to Lebanon?

Well, first of all, the Lebanese people have always had the courage to smile, even though things have been really complicated for them. They have always kept me in their hearts, and as long as I can come and see them, I will always do so, because they are part of my life.

How did you manage to remain popular with the new generation?

Well, it’s thanks to Jean-Jacques Debout, his music, his melodies. He is the one who wrote all my great shows.

We have always wanted to produce beautiful things and very special shows for the public. That has been true since day one.

What is the next step for Chantal Goya?

Well, the next step is the Palais des Congrès in Paris and my tour that continues in France. However, we are not done, since this show will improve further; there will be new characters who will arrive, and this enchanted road will never end.
