Deir El Ahmar’s landscape is adorned with a tapestry of landmarks, each bearing witness to its rich history. From the Roman Road and Via Appia in Btedhi to Kasser Al Banat, Saydet Al Borj and the iconic Couvent Rouge, these sites are steeped in centuries of history and culture. The Rosary in Deir El Ahmar and Our Lady of Bechwat stand as testaments to the region’s religious significance.
Reasons to visit Deir El Ahmar
The region’s unique religious appeal is epitomized by the famous Lady of Bechwat and a project to construct the world’s largest rosary. Visitors can explore historic churches, monasteries like Mar Saba, and the ancient spring in Beshwat. The Saint Jean Monastery in Ainata, dating back to the fourth century, and the Church of Our Lady of the Tower, built atop the ruins of the temple of Jupiter, add to Deir El Ahmar’s spiritual tapestry.

The region boasts a thriving wine industry, including some of the highest vineyards in the Middle East and the world. Hiking enthusiasts can embark on a journey of exploration through a network of trails, including Darb Mariam, Qasr Al Banat, Road to the Spring, Roman Road, Ainata to Oyoun Orghoch and the scenic wine road.

Deir El Ahmar is not only a place of spiritual and natural wonder but also a hub for wine aficionados. Couvent Rouge and Chateau Barqa are among the region’s main wineries. There are also around 60 guesthouses and hotels to choose from.

The Feast of the Assumption, celebrated on August 15, offers a glimpse into the region’s vibrant traditions. Deir El Ahmar is also a hub for crafts, including mosaic, embroidery, knitting and rosary making.
