As USAID’s Trade and Investment Facilitation (TIF) project is working to raise the profile of the district and improve its tourism offering, we explore Shouf at a glance.
Shouf is a place where conservation and cultural preservation coexist. As a protected area, it offers a unique opportunity for hiking enthusiasts and those seeking authentic experiences. Indeed, the region boasts an array of landmarks that showcase its diverse offerings:
Beiteddine: a historic palace that serves as a testament to the area’s rich history.
Deir Al Qamar: a charming village known for its picturesque architecture and cultural significance.
Baadaran El Shouf: a destination that offers a glimpse into local traditions and practices.
Old mills: a reminder of the region’s agricultural heritage.
Dammour El Naher: a serene river destination for those seeking tranquility.
Alkit Niha: a place where visitors can connect with nature.
Fakhoura: a hub of hidden crafts and traditions that deserve recognition.
Reasons to discover Shouf
Shouf is a haven for hikers, with over 500 kilometers of interconnected villages and the famous Lebanon Mountain Trail divided into five sections. It’s also renowned for its culinary traditions, offering delectable flavors like aakoub, meche, kores ane, maacarone bi kechek and awarma.
The region is eager to showcase its hidden crafts, including those found in Fakhoura, old mills and ancient bridges. Additionally, Shouf proudly claims to be the place where the history of Lebanon began.
Accommodations
Shouf offers a range of accommodations, including guesthouses like the Cesar project, Akram guesthouse, Dacha guesthouse, Achkar guesthouse and Zeydan guesthouses. There are also three hotels: Chalalat El Barouq, Barouq View Hotel and Al Fundok. For camping enthusiasts, the Cedar Ground campsite is a nature lover’s dream.
The region hosts captivating events, such as Jabalna and Mahrajenet Beit El Din, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the local culture.

Shouf is dedicated to sustainable practices, with initiatives like the Cedar Ground campsite, Bkerzay, Ash FarmVille and the Cesar project leading the way.
